The Magic will be without Jalen Suggs for a while. After the way he went down Sunday, though, the latest news offers some relief.
Suggs has been diagnosed with a mild bone bruise in his right knee and will be reevaluated in two weeks, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. He avoided other major structural damage.
That’s an encouraging development after Suggs’ knee buckled following a transition layup attempt during Orlando’s victory over the Knicks. He fell holding the knee, needed help leaving the court and didn’t return.
As Eli Cohen of Hoops Rumors detailed, Knicks coach Mike Brown opened his postgame remarks by offering prayers for Suggs. Magic coach Sean Sweeney said afterward that Suggs was in good spirits.
Now Orlando has a clearer picture, although the two-week mark is a reevaluation date, not a guaranteed return.
Suggs has already dealt with plenty of interruptions since entering the NBA in 2021, including surgery on his left knee in 2025. This injury involves the right knee.
Losing his defense and energy still leaves the Magic with work to do. But after watching Suggs get helped to the locker room, they’ll take an update that includes the words “mild” and “avoided.”
