The Orlando Magic have waived guard Ethan Thompson from his two-way contract, the team announced via its PR department.

Thompson signed with Orlando in February but never saw the floor in an NBA game. The 6-foot-5 guard did log 31 games for the Osceola Magic in the G League, averaging 18.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.2 assists and a steal in just over 34 minutes per night.

Now 26, Thompson has played in 127 G League games overall, including 33 with the Mexico City Capitanes last season. He went undrafted in 2021 after a strong college career at Oregon State and has had a few NBA looks, signing training camp deals with the Bulls in back-to-back years and later an Exhibit 10 deal with Orlando. Each time, he was waived before the season.

The Magic recently signed big man Orlando Robinson to a two-way deal. With Thompson now off the books, Orlando has two open two-way spots heading into August.

The Magic finished 41-41 last season, fighting their way to the playoffs before losing to the Boston Celtics in the first round. They traded for ex-Memphis Grizzlies shooting guard Desmond Bane early in the offseason.
