Major organizational changes for Pistons ‘unlikely’ during season

At least, that seems to be the overriding theory, despite the Pistons’ 17-game losing streak and 2-18 record.

Per Marc Stein of The Stein Line, it appears the job of general manager Troy Weaver and others in basketball operations are safe for now. Stein wrote that “major changes to their organizational structure are unlikely to be considered until after the season.”

This echoes an earlier report from Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press, who that “Pistons brass is reluctant to hit the panic button — meaning a sweeping front office change looks unlikely for now. With three-fourths of the season remaining, there’s time for the roster to gel, and fortunes to turn.”

Stein added that Weaver and “vice chairman Arn Tellem (one of the NBA’s most high-profile player agents until he joined the Pistons) are the most influential voices in Detroit under owner Tom Gores. New coach Monty Williams, of course, is just 20 games into the six-year deal he landed in the offseason worth in excess of $78 million.”

Former Pistons coach Dwane Casey also has a role in the team’s front office.
