Major Stan Van Gundy Update Revealed on Tuesday
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

As Amazon Prime Video finalizes its lineup for an unprecedented entry into NBA broadcasting, the streaming giant has quietly secured one of basketball’s sharpest minds.

Stan Van Gundy, a fixture of the NBA on TNT and former NBA head coach, will join Amazon Prime Video as a game analyst for its 2025-26 NBA coverage, per Andrew Marchand of The Athletic.

Sources also told The Athletic that Van Gundy will pair with play-by-play announcer Ian Eagle on Amazon’s live game telecasts.

Eagle has been calling NBA, NFL and college basketball games for more than three decades.

Van Gundy, 65, brings more than four decades of coaching and eight years of broadcasting experience to the table.

Van Gundy led the Orlando Magic to the 2009 NBA Finals, the second and most recent Finals trip in franchise history. He also twice coached the Eastern Conference team in the All-Star Game.

Van Gundy was also the head coach of the Miami Heat (2003-05), Detroit Pistons (2014-18) and New Orleans Pelicans (2020-21). In between his last few stops and since leaving the Pelicans, he has worked in television, most recently becoming a a staple of TNT’s NBA broadcasts as well as some work for Turner Sports during the NCAA Tournament.

To complement Eagle and Van Gundy, 2011 Finals MVP Dirk Nowitzki and six-time All-Star Blake Griffin will join Taylor Rooks in studio roles.

In May 2024, Van Gundy sat down with The U.S. Sun before Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals between the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks.

When asked about which fellow game analysts he looks up to, he said, "Well, my brother, number one ... He did it for 17 years, and he was the best."

Jeff Van Gundy, Stan's younger brother, became a regular broadcast member for ESPN starting in 2007 but was let go by the network in June 2023.

Stan Van Gundy also mentioned his TNT partner, Reggie Miller, saying, "Reggie's been one of the best in the business for a long time."
