Free agent swingman Malik Beasley is in advanced talks on a rest-of-season contract with Partizan Belgrade, according to Dusan Markovic of Nova.rs.
The reported deal is expected to be worth roughly $2 million and would not include an NBA opt-out clause (via HoopsRumors and Sportando).
Beasley, 29, appeared in all 82 games for the Pistons last season and turned in one of the best years of his career. He averaged 16.3 points, shot a career-best 41.3 percent from three and finished runner-up for Sixth Man of the Year. Detroit had been discussing a three-year, $42 million deal with him before the summer.
Those talks collapsed when news broke that Beasley was under federal investigation for possible illegal betting activity.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York opened the inquiry in June, just ahead of free agency, leaving Beasley without clarity on his NBA status.
Beasley was not named in the October indictments that led to the arrests of Heat guard Terry Rozier and Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups in separate gambling cases. He also has not been cleared by federal investigators or by the NBA, which is running its own review. That has kept him in limbo, and no NBA deal has materialized.
European and Chinese teams have shown strong interest, per Donatas Urbonas of BasketNews. The Pistons and Cavaliers are among the NBA teams monitoring the situation.
Partizan Belgrade, which competes in both the ABA League and EuroLeague, features former NBA players Shake Milton and Jabari Parker. The club is off to a 5–9 start in EuroLeague play.
