The NBA have announced the winner of the Rookie of the Year Award.

The 2024-24 Rookie of the Year Award has been announced, with San Antonio Spurs player Stephon Castle the winner.

Stephon Castle was the number four pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, and quickly managed to establish himself as a key part of the team’s plans.

Seeing off a late surge from Atlanta Hawks’ number one pick Zaccarie Risacher , Castle was a deserving winner, with the Memphis Grizzlies’ Jaylen Wells the third finalist.

San Antonio Spurs royalty respond to Stephon Castle win

Stephon Castle is the second San Antonio Spurs player in succession to win the Rookie of the Year Award.

Victor Wembanyama won the award in 2023-24, and he paid tribute to Castle’s success, praising his teammate’s ability and mindset.

Wembanyama wrote on X: “Hustle, heart & just pure talent… all year long, you showed why you deserved this title !! So proud of you.”

San Antonio Spurs legend Manu Ginobili also voiced his approval, with a post on social media.

Ginobili wrote: “Congrats Steph! What an amazing rookie season! Quite excited about our future.”

San Antonio Spurs set up for success

The San Antonio Spurs did tremendously well to keep hold of Stephon Castle while negotiating the trade to acquire De’Aaron Fox during the season.

Injuries meant the Spurs did not get a full run with their stars together, but the team are stacked up well for the future, and expected to make moves this off-season.

Castle ended the season averaging 14.7 points per game, and 17.8 ppg following the All-Star break.

He has established himself as a legitimate third option on the team, with former star Sean Elliott dubbing him a ‘mini Kawhi’, speaking earlier this season.
