The NBA Finals ratings have been disappointing, to say the least, and Ted Cruz couldn't resist trying to take a dig at the "woke" league for its failure on Twitter, which earned an impassioned response from Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.
Cruz retweeted an article from Hannity.com about the ratings for Game 3 of the Lakers-Heat series being "the least watched in recorded ratings history" with the caption: "Not surprising. Personally speaking, this is the first time in years that I haven’t watched a single game in the NBA Finals. #GoWokeGoBroke."
Cuban then retweeted Cruz's retweet, calling out the Texas Senator for delighting in the league struggling when three NBA teams are in his own state.
A US Senator with 3 @NBA teams in his state, employing thousands of people and he is rooting for their businesses to do poorly. This is who you are @tedcruz . Every minute of your life, this is exactly who you are. https://t.co/rnCV3qJTfQ

Who is right, and who is wrong here? It's a little complicated. There's no denying that the NBA ratings are abysmal right now, but Cruz and others, including President Donald Trump, are making a pretty massive leap in logic to say the reason is because of the league's commitment to social justice.
Could that be the case? It's possible that it's one of a variety of factors that explain the NBA's low ratings. But the problem is there's no evidence to prove or disprove that claim at this point, so it becomes an easy way for politicians to take shots at their opponents while amping up their own bases.
