“With his highlight reel dunks, Matas Buzelis has become a fixture with the Chicago Bulls. In just two seasons, he has become a focal point for a team still cultivating an identity.
Through managerial and coaching changes, teammates being traded, Buzelis still has love for sweet home Chicago. In fact, Buzelis is determined to play his entire career with the Bulls, per Cousins with Vince Carter & Tracy McGrady. He told the NBA legends that he is here to stay for the long haul.
“So I feel like everything’s in God’s plan for sure,” Buzelis said. “That’s why I try to think like God made me drop to 11 and be in Chicago because I remember my agent saying he’s like zero shot you go anywhere past eight like or anything past 10 doesn’t matter.”
To this day, it still amazes Buzelis that the Bulls drafted him in 2023 straight out of high school.
“But I couldn’t believe Chicago when they drafted me like they said my name. I don’t know if you guys saw it, but I was crying like crazy. My whole family was; my little brother was in tears. But to put on the Bulls uniform and represent the city means everything to me.”
Furthermore, Buzelis mentioned his ultimate goal.
“I want to bring them a championship… I can’t imagine playing anywhere else, man,” he said.
Buzelis has emerged as a young talent with budding potential. Along the way, he made the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2025. Plus, Buzelis was present for the NBA Rising Stars game during All-Star weekend. Last year, he averaged 16.3 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
