Lakers star Matt Barnes never expected retirement to be so combative but he had no choice but to take up arms this week after a rodent intruded in his home. In a now viral video, the former Lakers swingman can be seen trying to kick the vermin out for 9 straight minutes.

At the start of the video, you can see Barnes approach the creature very carefully, even though it's already been contained to a cardboard box. Eventually, as Barnes goes in for the extraction, we see the possum in all its glory, snarled and curled up in the corner as if ready for a fight.
Naturally, the fans had a good at Barnes’ expense and some were quick to point out how harmless the possum was in that situation. Had Barnes just simply scooped it up instead of acting like, as some fans called him, a “scaredy cat,” the whole thing might have passed a lot smoother.
Another fan even joked about how he was glad it “wasn’t D Fisher in the house,” using the opportunity to poke fun at an old rivalry.
Barnes, an NBA veteran for 14 years, has stepped up in countless situations before and he was always fearless for whatever team he was on. As a bit of a journeyman in his career, Barnes has seen it all and he’s always answered the call.
This latest opponent, however, was one of his toughest battles yet. In the end, it seems Barnes was able to finesse the animal into the box and out of his house but it gave him, and the fans, and experience they won’t soon forget.
