The Dallas Mavericks have won four out of their last five games, and it comes as no coincidence that Anthony Davis has played in all of them. The 10-time All-Star missed significant time earlier in the season due to a calf injury, but he has made up for lost time since his return.
Davis helped lead the Mavs to a 119-111 win over the Brooklyn Nets in their last game, registering 24 points on 10-of-21 shooting, to go along with 14 rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks in 33 minutes of action.
Davis, however, is now dealing with another calf issue, which has led to Dallas making a decision ahead of Monday’s game against the Utah Jazz.
After a slow start to the season, the Mavs have shown significant improvements of late. Currently at 10-16, this team still has a long way to go, but there’s no denying that they’re playing better basketball of late as compared to how they kicked off the 2025-26 season.
Dallas is now looking to make it three straight wins on Monday as they face the 9-15 Jazz on the road at Delta Center. The Mavs, however, will need to try to do so without Davis.
The Mavs announced before tip-off that Davis will not be available to play on Monday night due to a left calf contusion.
Injury Update:
— Mavs PR (@MavsPR) December 16, 2025
Gafford (right ankle injury management) - AVAILABLE
Davis (left calf contusion) - OUT
Exum (right knee surgery) - OUT
Irving (left knee surgery) - OUT
Lively II (right foot injury management) - OUT
Russell (illness) - OUT
Williams (right Achilles soreness) - OUT
It is important to note that this is the same calf that kept Davis on the sidelines for 14 straight games in November. Right now, he is dealing with a calf contusion, which is, apparently, serious enough to force him out of Monday’s game.
Davis reportedly took part in team shootaround on Monday morning, but he was not healthy enough to suit up for the game. His next chance to play will be on Thursday in a home game against the Detroit Pistons. At this point, however, there is no guarantee that he will be back for that contest.
With Davis out, Klay Thompson and Naji Marshall could potentially see an uptick in their production against Utah.
