Anthony Davis has been out of action for the Dallas Mavericks for five straight games. The 10-time All-Star is dealing with a lingering calf injury, which has limited him to just five games this season. During that stretch, Davis has produced averages of 20.8 points on 52.0% shooting, 10.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks in 29.8 minutes per contest.
The Mavs have missed Davis’ services dearly. They are coming off a 111-105 win over the Washington Wizards on Saturday, but they previously lost four in a row. The Mavs have gone 1-4 without their star big man, and they are currently 3-7 overall.
After sitting out the Wizards game on Saturday, Davis was listed as questionable for Monday’s game matchup the Milwaukee Bucks. There was some optimism that the 6-foot-10 forward-center would finally be ready to make his return to the court after his extended absence.
Unfortunately, this would not be the case for Monday night. Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd spoke to reporters ahead of the Bucks game, and he announced that Davis is not going to play. Kidd officially ruled Davis out for a sixth straight contest due to a left calf strain, per ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.
The silver lining, however, is that Kidd also noted that Davis was on the floor today and is making progress. Nevertheless, there is no firm timetable for his return to the court.
It is also worth noting that Dereck Lively II (knee) has also been ruled out against the Bucks. Daniel Gafford (ankle), on the other hand, has been cleared to play. Either way, Dallas’ frontcourt will remain shorthanded against Milwaukee, who enter Monday’s contest with a 6-4 record.
Davis’ next chance to play will be on Wednesday. The Mavs will host the Phoenix Suns in a home matchup at American Airlines Center, with tip-off scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET.
