Anthony Davis got injured in his first game with the Dallas Mavericks, and now he has gotten injured in his fifth game with the Dallas Mavericks as well.

The Dallas star big man Davis took a frightening shot at the end of the first quarter in his team’s game against the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday. Davis fell victim to some friendly fire, getting elbowed in the eye area by Mavericks teammate Daniel Gafford while trying to collect a loose ball.

Take a look at the video.

Davis had to go to the locker room and missed over nine minutes of game action. Fortunately, he was able to return before the end of the first half and was also out on the floor for the start of the second half as well.

The 10-time All-Star Davis, who was the centerpiece for the Mavs in February’s blockbuster Luka Doncic trade with the Los Angeles Lakers, has had a tough start to his Dallas tenure. In his debut with the team, Davis suffered an adductor injury ( video here) that ultimately kept him out of the lineup for a month and a half. He finally returned on March 24 but has averaged just 14.3 points and 6.8 rebounds since then.

While Davis was able to return to the game against Atlanta on Wednesday, seemingly without issue, Dallas is now 38-39 this season but close to falling out of the play-in tournament. If Davis encounters any ill effects with his vision over the next few days, the Mavericks might not have much reason to risk it with him.
