Mavericks are chaotic, but their offseason hasn't been

The Dallas Mavericks are a team filled with chaos after trading Luka Doncic, but their offseason for the most part has been relatively tame.

Bleacher Report writer Andy Bailey conducted a power ranking for the most chaotic offseasons in the NBA and the Mavs clocked in at No. 19.

"It re-signed Dante Exum and extended Kyrie Irving. Even with the latter's torn ACL, both moves were pretty obvious," Bailey wrote.

"If you're looking for actual chaos for the Mavs, that came almost entirely on draft lottery night, when their 1.8 percent chance to land the No. 1 pick came through and gave them the chance to add Cooper Flagg.

"That was a lifeline that could ultimately bail Dallas out of one of the wildest decisions in league history."

Mavs have tried to stay calm

The only teams with less chaotic offseasons than the Mavericks are the Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers, Chicago Bulls, Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards, Cleveland Cavaliers, Toronto Raptors, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, and Oklahoma City Thunder.

While the Mavs haven't been chaotic this offseason, that doesn't mean big moves haven't been made. Selecting Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 overall pick was a massive move for the franchise; there wasn't a lot of drama with it.

The Mavs won the lottery despite having one of the worst chances and took Flagg because there really wasn't another option. Sure, the Mavs could have dipped into the chaos and traded the right to draft Flagg for a more win-now player, but Dallas knew it needed a young cornerstone to build around after trading Doncic to the Lakers.

The Mavericks offseason is just a few weeks away from completion as the team gets ready for training camp. The team's first preseason game comes on Oct. 6 against the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder.
