Mavericks' Cooper Flagg Suffers Injury Scare on Wednesday

Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg appears to be finding his groove after a rather rough start to his NBA career. In fact, during Monday's game against the Milwaukee Bucks, he had his best performance of the year so far with 26 points, nine rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block.

Entering Wednesday's showdown with the Phoenix Suns, Flagg was averaging 15.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.3 steals.

It's worth noting, however, that Flagg injured his thumb during a game against the Washington Wizards over the weekend and played through it during their clash with the Bucks. He ended up on the team's injury report before he was made available against the Suns.

During Wednesday's meeting, Flagg raised more concerns about his health when he was forced to leave the floor due to an injury.

Early in the first quarter, Phoenix guard Grayson Allen hit Flagg on the shoulder/elbow area while trying to stop a shot. The Mavs newcomer was clearly hurt and went to the locker room to get checked.

The good news is that Flagg was able to return to the game. He was spotted holding some sort of pack on his left shoulder while sitting on the bench, but he appeared fine as he got back to action.

Sure enough, Flagg's health will be worth monitoring moving forward, especially considering the injuries he has recently sustained.

The Mavericks have two more games scheduled this week: on Friday against the Los Angeles Clippers and on Sunday against the Portland Trail Blazers. Considering the short gap between contests, it won't be surprising if Dallas opts to give their young rising star some rest.
