Key Points:
Anthony Davis will not be in action on Wednesday night as the Dallas Mavericks take on the 1-6 New Orleans Pelicans in a home game at American Airlines Center. This will be the 10-time All-Star’s third straight game on the sidelines as he continues to nurse a calf injury.
Davis suffered the injury last Wednesday, Oct. 30, in the Mavs’ 107-105 win over the Indiana Pacers. He was initially tagged with left lower leg soreness and was unable to return to the game. The 6-foot-10 forward-center ended up missing the next two contests, which Dallas both lost.
Head coach Jason Kidd spoke to reporters before Wednesday’s game against the Pelicans, and he had an important update about the status of Davis.
Davis is currently in his first full season with the Mavs following his mid-season blockbuster trade from the Los Angeles Lakers. In five games played thus far, the five-time All-NBA veteran has averaged 20.8 points on 52.0% shooting, 10.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks in 29.8 minutes per contest.
A calf issue has put Davis’ strong start to the new season on hold. However, it appears that he has improved significantly and should return to the court sooner rather than later. According to Coach Kidd, Davis himself has advised that he’s doing well.
“AD is ramping up,” Kidd said on Wednesday, via Mavs beat writer Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News. “He’s going to continue to be evaluated day-to-day. He’s reported that he’s feeling better.”
Davis won’t suit up against the Pelicans, but this latest update seems to indicate that he has a good chance of returning in Dallas’ next game. This comes in the form of a matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night.
That’s going to be a road game for the Mavs, with tipoff from FedEx Forum scheduled for 9:00 p.m. ET.
