Mavericks lock down Naji Marshall with three-year extension

The Dallas Mavericks are not far from being back in position to compete at the top of the Western Conference.

A core formed around young phenom Cooper Flagg and veteran Kyrie Irving also has excellent supporting members, and one of those was extended for three more seasons on Sunday.

Naji Marshall receives three-year extension

According to ESPN's NBA insider Shams Charania, veteran forward Naji Marshall and Dallas have agreed on a three-year, $52.2 million contract extension that runs through the 2029-30 season.

Marshall has spent the previous two seasons with the Mavericks after spending the first four seasons of his career with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Can Naji Marshall maintain momentum from a career-best season?

In his second season in Dallas, Marshall averaged a career high in points (15.2) and assists (3.3). He did so by starting the most games he ever had, 46.

Marshall will likely return to a starting role this upcoming season, but it's unclear what his role will be with the aforementioned Irving returning from an injury.

Dallas has an excellent starting five on paper

Irving, Flagg, Marshall, PJ Washington and Dereck Lively II make up an extremely solid starting lineup for a Mavericks team looking to bounce back from a disappointing 26-56 season.

Irving's production and Flagg's second-year leap will play key roles for Dallas, as will the production from role players like Marshall throughout the entirety of the season.
