Mavericks' Luka Doncic scores 28, hits seven three-pointers in one quarter

Luka Dončić of the Dallas Mavericks started a matchup Thursday night against the Los Angeles Clippers about as hot as possible.

Dončić, 22, nailed seven of his 10 three-point attempts and finished the first quarter with 28 points. The entire Clippers team combined for 28 points in the quarter.

According to Stathead, no NBA player has even scored 18 in a quarter since James Harden did it in November 2019. But Dončić sailed past that number, despite making only one of his four free throw attempts in the first quarter.

Dončić has been a dynamic player for the Mavericks since being drafted in the 2018 NBA Draft with an average of at least 21 points per game in all four of his NBA seasons. However, the most points he's ever scored in a game is 46.

In each of the last two postseasons, Dallas was eliminated in the first round by the Clippers.
