Klay Thompson was back on the court on Thursday night for a shorthanded Dallas Mavericks side. The five-time All-Star is looking to help lead his team to a bounce-back victory after their 118-109 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday.

The Mavs, however, do not have Cooper Flagg for Thursday’s game. The rookie sprained his ankle against the Nuggets and has missed the second game of his NBA career. Dallas’ two superstars, Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving, remain on the shelf with significant injuries.

Thompson marked another career milestone on Thursday. The 35-year-old’s big moment came in the first quarter after he hit a historic three-pointer from the wing.

Thompson, now in his second season with the Mavs, entered Thursday’s game with 2,803 career triples. He knocked down his first three of the night with 3:52 remaining in the opening quarter.

Thompson hit another triple at the one-minute, 18-second mark. He hit the bottom of the net from 24 feet out after an assist from Ryan Nembhard.

That was Thompson’s 2,85th career triple. He climbed the all-time leaderboard for most threes in NBA history.

The Mavs took to social media to announce Thompson’s latest career milestone.

“History from beyond the arc. Klay Thompson passes Damian Lillard for 4th all-time in 3s. CONGRATS, CAP!” the team posted on X.

For the first time since his rookie year, Thompson has been relegated to a bench role for the Mavs this season. The 6-foot-5 swingman, however, has made the most of his opportunities. In 38 appearances for Dallas this season, Thompson has averaged 11.3 points on 37.6% shooting, 2.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 22.2 minutes off the bench. He’s also connecting on 2.8 triples on a 36.6% clip.

Thompson is currently in the second season of his three-year deal with the Mavs. He will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2026-27 season.
