This year has been filled with ups and downs for the Dallas Mavericks.
In February, the Mavericks shocked the sports world by trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, acquiring Anthony Davis and Max Christie in the blockbuster deal.
Then, in March, Kyrie Irving tore his left ACL against the Sacramento Kings. Without Irving, Dallas missed the playoffs this year after making the NBA Finals last year.
Something great finally happened for the Mavericks in May, as the franchise won the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery. Dallas is expected to select Duke star Cooper Flagg with the first overall pick in this year's draft.
Since Irving is expected to miss a chunk of next season recovering from his ACL injury, the Mavericks need to acquire a point guard this offseason.
With that said, Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report predicts that Dallas will sign 12-time All-Star Chris Paul, who becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
"Prediction: The Dallas Mavericks, who need a replacement guard until Kyrie Irving is healthy, use the TMLE (Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception) on Chris Paul," Pincus wrote.
Paul played for the San Antonio Spurs this season. He averaged 8.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists while shooting 42.7% from the field, 37.7% from beyond the arc and 92.4% from the free-throw line.
A future Hall of Famer, Paul was teammates with Klay Thompson on the Golden State Warriors. He also played with Jason Kidd on Team USA in the 2008 Olympics.
The 40-year-old Paul made $10.98 million this season with the Spurs. He has career averages of 17.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 9.2 assists in 1,354 NBA games.
