Mavericks Waive Tyler Smith

Milwaukee selected Smith with the 33rd overall pick in the 2024 draft. Facing a roster crunch last fall, the Bucks decided to waive the former G League Ignite forward shortly before the 2025/26 season even though he was on a guaranteed standard contract.

Smith spent about a month on a two-way deal with Houston before being cut in early January. He signed a two-year, two-way contract with Dallas in late February.

The 21-year-old didn’t play much for the Bucks as a rookie in 2024/25, averaging 2.9 points and 1.1 rebounds in 5.3 minutes per game across 23 outings. He made 12 appearances (13.8 MPG) for the Mavs down the stretch of last season, averaging 4.7 PPG and 2.8 RPG on .420/.286/.667 shooting splits.

Smith also played in 33 total G League games (26.7 MPG) in 2025/26 for the Capital City Go-Go, Rio Grande Valley Vipers and Texas Legends. He averaged 13.4 PPG, 5.2 RPG and 1.0 SPG on .469/.348/.739 shooting.

Dallas has one two-way vacancy after releasing Smith. The team’s other two-way players are John Poulakidas and Tobi Lawal.
