Memphis Grizzlies are NBA's ultimate early surprise

Cameron Boozer, Ty Jerome leading way for Grizzlies

The Grizzlies’ 5-0 hot start has been fueled by the strong start to rookie Cameron Boozer‘s first foray into the NBA.

The No. 3 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft is averaging a double-double with 15.8 points and 10.8 rebounds through his first five NBA games, and he just earned his first career triple-double as well.

Just 19 years old, the younger Boozer is the son of former NBA All-Star Carlos Boozer, and he already looks like he has the makings to be an All-Star just like his father was.

Boozer has been amazing so far for Memphis as he’s reignited a stagnant franchise and made them relevant again.

As well, Grizzlies guard Ty Jerome — the reigning NBA Player of the Week in the Western Conference — is having an exceptional start to his season with 25.8 points per game so far as he has been one of the NBA’s leading scorers.

While Jerome’s scoring output will likely drop off eventually, what he’s been able to accomplish so far has been incredible to witness, and you have to give him a lot of credit for his fast start to the season after he missed most of last year with injuries.

Overall, the Grizzlies roster has been firing on all cylinders, and with Boozer and Jerome both leading the way, Memphis has been one of the pleasant surprises in the league so far this season.
