The Miami 305 team lost its opening game (by forfeit) to Detroit yesterday. Michael Beasley got into a fight with Dwight Howard. The first season the team existed. The team is led by former Heat players Mario Chalmers and Michael Beasley.

Key Sequence

Miami was trailing 33-25 in the second half and LA had possession. Beasley and Howard were close to the basket when they began arguing and Beasley appeared to start throwing punches. Howard wrapped Beasley in a bear hug and pressed his forearm on his face. Then play stopped.

Lance Stephenson was trying to separate the two players and advocate for Beasley to the referee. Finally, the two players were separated with Beasley on the floor and Howard taken away by a teammate. Stephenson committed a hard foul on Jamal Crawford and threw a punch at him also during the game.

Beasley and Stephenson fought one another in May in a mixed-martial arts league sanctioned fight. Stephenson choked Beasley out in the first round. The two men are gluttons for contact, but need to transition away from the cage.

Big 3 season

The two players are suspended for the 305’s next game against Detroit. As per Big 3 rules, the referees are allowed to end the game prematurely due to multiple ejections. The four teams in the league play one another in each of the franchise cities. The next games will be in Detroit with the LA Riot facing the Dallas Power, the Houston Righands versus the Boston Ball Hogs and the DMV Trilogy versus the Chicago Triplets.

In this summer period where the Marlins are playing “sort of” well and the World Cup is in swing, the Miami 305 could steal some interest of fans to attend their home games. The Miami 305 will play their home games at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise.
