The Miami Heat are coming off one of the most embarrassing playoff series losses in recent memory.
They were quickly dispatched by the Cavaliers in four games, getting blown out in three out of the four contests.
In their first playoff series since trading Jimmy Butler, the Heat were served a reality check on where they stand in the East.
Coming into this season, the Heat will continue to lean on Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo as they look to avoid falling into the play-in tournament once again.
In August, the Heat traded Haywood Highsmith and a 2032 second round pick to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for a protected 2026 second round pick.
It was a move that got the Heat under the tax line for this upcoming season and creates roster flexibility.
According to Brian Lewis of the New York Post, Highsmith isn’t expected to be on the Nets for long and could be on the move before the 2026 NBA Trade Deadline.
“It’s also almost impossible to see a world where he’s in Brooklyn past the trade deadline, much less next summer.
“Some contender will surely be looking to add in February. A wing defender on a $5.6 million expiring deal could look pretty good.”
Highsmith was originally signed by the HEAT in 2021 and he spent four seasons in Miami, making the postseason each time.
He appeared in 74 games (42 starts) last season and averaged 6.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 24.6 minutes while shooting 45.8 percent from the field.
He is a versatile, low-usage role player who can provide shooting and defense while making hustle plays for his team.
He could be a valuable player in a playoff rotation for a team looking to make a deep run.
