Miami Heat shooting guard Duncan Robinson is coming off a rebound campaign. After a poor 2022-23 season in which he frustratingly averaged just 6.4 points on 37.1 percent shooting from the floor and just a 32.8 percent success rate on shots taken from behind the arc, Robinson managed to trend upwards.
This season, he averaged 12.9 points while posting a 45.0 field goal percentage and 39.5 3-point percentage. His effective field goal percentage went up from 50.4 to 58.9. He even picked up enough votes to tie with Phoenix Suns guard Grayson Allen for 10th in the Most Improved Player award that was eventually won by Tyrese Maxey of the Philadelphia 76ers.
Following his bounce-back season and just less than a couple of months after turning 30 years old, the former Michigan Wolverines star said that he feels that his prime is still in front of him.
Via Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald:
“I just turned 30, which is crazy,” said Robinson, who has two seasons left on his current contract with the Heat. “But what might even be crazier is I still think I’m far from a finished product. Maybe a lot of people say that 28 to whatever is your prime, but I feel like my prime is still ahead of me.”
In any case, Robinson must be hoping that he would be able to sustain — if not better — his form in the next season, especially since there is an early termination option in his contract for the 2025-26 NBA season. In other words, he could treat his 2024-25 NBA campaign like a contract year. He will have to impress on the court to strengthen his chances of landing a new and more lucrative deal in the near future.
