In the last 14 years or so, the GOAT debate has become a major talking point in the NBA. LeBron James and Michael Jordan dominate the conversation, but it seems that both player are over all of that.

At 41, James is closer to retiring, but he continues to put up impressive performances to make it clear that his longevity is unmatched. Meanwhile, people use that to push him as the greatest of all time.

At the same time, many people thought Jordan had negative feelings about James, which has never been the case. During an appearance on ESPN’s “First Take” on Wednesday, Michaael Wilbon made a major revelation.

“It took LeBron seven years to win a championship, like it took Michael,” Wilbon said. “I remember having a conversation with Michael who said, ‘Hey, take it easy. When you talk about this tomorrow, take it easy on this kid. And here’s why.’ And Michael had a list of reasons of things that he really liked about LeBron James, He didn’t have to do that! But he understood what was going to go on publicly because he had been on the other end of that early in his career.”

“Michael understood despair in the playoffs,” he added. “So, he wanted to soften that blow for LeBron James, who was coming up later. If people think Jordan has somehow resented LeBron, they’re wrong.”

In an interview with ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, LeBron James shrugged off all the GOAT talk. He made it clear he couldn’t compare to Michael Jordan, as they had different playstyles.

“I never have compared myself to MJ because our games are totally different,” James said. “I have been a point-forward/forward-point my whole life. I have always looked for the pass. MJ kind of looked for the shot. Not kind of, he did. He looked for the shot.

“There are a lot of things where I would say my game is a lot different and a little better than his, but s—, he was f—ing great. We’re both great. We’re both great basketball players.”

While their fans try to push this narrative, the pair have nothing but good things to say about one another.
