'Might win MVP in next two years…' Draymond Green puts rookie Victor Wembanyama in top 20 players in NBA
Scott Wachter-USA TODAY Sports

Victor Wembanyama has steadily earned his respect among his peers in the NBA. Recently, Draymond Green came out and gave Wembanyama his highest praise. He thinks the San Antonio Spurs star is already a top 20 player in the NBA. Green also thinks he can be the MVP in 2 or 3 years.

On his podcast, The Draymond Green Show, the Golden State Warriors superstar spoke about Victor Wembanyama. His experience playing against the 7′ 4″ French national team player in 4 games, including the preseason, has led him to say;

Victor Wembanyama is probably a top 20 player in the NBA right now. He is insanely gifted. With that skillset, with that length, with that jump shot. His jump shot is absolutely beautiful. Victor Wembanyama is just different, kid's special. He may win MVP of the league in like the next 2 years or so. Draymond Green

Draymond Green has based this view after playing against Wembanyama over the course of the season. Green has seen the development of the phenom starting from the preseason game until their last regular season game a few days back.

He did mention that Wembanyama’s ball-handling skills have improved since the time he came into the league. Green also praised the San Antonio Spurs staff for helping their 20-year-old rookie to deal in that department. Wembanyama has also adjusted well to the growing pains of playing in the toughest basketball league in the world.

But Green putting him in the top 20 players in the league bracket, was unexpected. Yes, everybody is witnessing the development and improvements in performance day after day. But seeing Wembanyama winning a league MVP award in the near future speaks of his ability as a player.

Draymond Green, thinking Victor Wembanyama will win MVP in future, is spot on

Victor Wembanyama is a one-of-a-kind basketball player. His physical attributes are listed at 7’4″ in height and having an almost 8-foot wingspan. Now there are other players in league history who may have similar attributes. But what makes Wembanyama different is how he uses them. As Draymond Green mentioned, for a guy of his size, to have a sweet jump shot, already makes him an even bigger problem.

Green also mentioned Wembanyama’s feel for the court, his vision and awareness are increasing day by day. Wembanyama is averaging, 20.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.4 blocks while still adding 1.3 steals in his rookie season. If the Spurs rookie can keep his current rate of development going, it will not take long before he becomes unstoppable. Those above-mentioned elements alone can make him a surefire candidate to win the league MVP in the coming years.

Hence, Draymond Green is not wrong to say that Victor Wembanyama is already a top 20 player in the league currently. And it may be only a matter of time before he uses his incredible advantage of size and skill to win the league MVP award.
