The Milwaukee Bucks signed Myles Turner in a shocking free agency move, and could add a proven, veteran point guard this summer to maximize Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Milwaukee Bucks, after weeks of trade rumors surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo, decided to go all-in on their best player, waiving Damian Lillard in order to make room to add floor-spacing center Myles Turner.

With Turner, Giannis, and a cast of floor-spacers, the Bucks should be able to compete in a weak Eastern Conference regardless of what else they do this summer. However, their best point guard is Kevin Porter Jr., and Milwaukee could easily upgrade.

The Bucks have been linked to Chris Paul, another unrestricted free agent, although they could reunite with one of Antetokounmpo’s past teammates.

Malcolm Brogdon linked to Milwaukee Bucks

Picked 36th overall by the Bucks in 2016, Malcolm Brogdon won Rookie of the Year and seemed poised to be a long-term backcourt player in Milwaukee.

However, he was traded to the Indiana Pacers three years later for a first-round pick to help make room for Eric Bledsoe’s extension. Brogdon went on to win Sixth Man of the Year and is one of the more reliable facilitators and floor-spacers in the NBA when healthy.

At 32 years old, Brogdon fits the Bucks’ timeline slightly better than Paul, and the Washington Wizards are interested in getting a deal done.

“League sources say that the Wizards are open to sign-and-trade discussions to facilitate Brogdon’s exit from Washington and a slew of teams have registered varying levels of interest in the 32-year-old,” reported league insider Jake Fischer. “That list includes the Clippers, Suns and Lakers as well as the Warriors, Timberwolves, Pelicans, Kings and Bucks.”

The Bucks will have to win a bidding war for Brogdon, although they have already proved this season that they are all-in on keeping their star happy and the team competitive.

Is Paul or Brogdon better next to Giannis?

Chris Paul is 40 years old and likely only has a single season left in the tank, if that. However, he would come much cheaper than Brogdon provided he is allowed to start, likely willing to take a pay cut from his $10.4 million contract with the San Antonio Spurs last season.

At this stage in their careers, Brogdon is a better defender and scorer, although Paul will always be the better passer. Neither are high-volume threats from deep, but both can knock shots down.

Despite being eight years older, there is a case that Paul is more reliable. He started in all 82 games last season for the Spurs, whereas Brogdon has not appeared in 65 games more than twice in his career.

However, with a multi-year window seemingly open with Turner in town, the Bucks don’t want to re-start the point guard search next summer, and despite his injury history, Brogdon is the better fit provided the Bucks can get him for a fair price.
