Minnesota Timberwolves 2022-23 Betting Guide

Minnesota made the playoffs last season. That was good progress and then they made a major transaction this offseason as they try and maximize the current potential of an emerging talent group.

The Timberwolves appear to have a pair of stars in Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards. Those guys are not Top 10 players but there is still room to grow for both, especially the younger Edwards.

Minnesota looks primed for a very strong regular season so we have to get over our old biases. That is how you make money in the market.

2021-22 Year In Review

The Timberwolves made the playoffs last season, which is a novelty for the franchise. They even won some games against Memphis in the first round showing some proof of concept with coach Chris Finch and the combination of KAT, Ant-Man, and D'Angelo Russell. The best result of last year was probably that it resets the levels of expectations in Minnesota. KAT still has to start winning in the playoffs (and making them with regularity) if he really wants to be considered among the truly elite players.

2022-23 Minnesota Timberwolves Futures

Northwest Division: +155
Western Conference: +1400
NBA Title: +3300

The move alluded to earlier was the trade for center Rudy Gobert. They had to mortgage some of their depth, and future first-round picks to get the best defensive big man in the game though. We are all curious to see how the pairing works with KAT, but the obvious benefit is that he won't be asked to do as much defensively and Gobert is not a player who demands the ball on offense. Unfortunately (for Utah fans), Gobert has been played off the floor in the playoffs, but during the season he is a very impactful player.

Minnesota looks like a team that is built for the regular season. That is not just because of Gobert, but because players like Russell, Edwards, and even KAT, are not known for their decision-making. Russell is still more of a scorer than a point guard and sometimes you need a guy to steady things not force the action. That is not his game. Unless someone really steps up they are going to struggle with their second unit. There is not one thing that this group really does well. A lot of nights it won't matter though.

Minnesota Timberwolves - Bet to Consider

Anthony Edwards Most Improved Player +850

I am pretty high on Minnesota having a really strong regular season. If I wasn't so high on Denver too, I might have picked the Timberwolves to win just their second division title in franchise history. It is not a bad bet, but why not go with this one? Edwards improved a lot last season but he remains at the top of the table for this award, even at that +850 price. I can definitely see Edwards getting plenty of attention for leading a Minnesota team that makes the playoff with ease this season. He might not be an MVP-level candidate but Most Improved looks pretty sharp.
