Minnesota Timberwolves: Alex Rodriguez Makes Bold Statement That Will Cause Problems for the Wolves’ Future

Taylor announced over the weekend that he would retain his team ownership after agreeing to terms with Rodriguez and business partner Marc Lore to turn the team over in 2021. The surprising announcement took fans by surprise as the agreement was set in stone long before the Kings became one of the most exciting teams to watch in the league.

Rodriguez claimed that Taylor fabricated a narrative to weasel himself out of a deal now that his team is getting an increase in value. His statement made it clear that they will be fighting for their right to owning the Wolves, per The Spun’s Kameron Duncan:

“We’re going to be the owners of the Minnesota Timberwolves,” Lore said on Friday.

“It’s just a matter of time, and how much pain Glen wants to put the fans, the players, the town and community through. It’s his choice. It didn’t have to be this way.”

Taylor claimed that while Rodriguez and Lore managed to complete two of the four payments that would transfer the team, he insisted that the partners missed out on making a payment that would extend their control on the team.

Both Lore and Rodriquez insisted that they made the necessary payments but didn’t get their payment processed by the league before the imposed deadline.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are an exciting team to watch (and own)

Looking at the current state of on-court affairs for the Timberwolves, it’s understandable why Rodriguez and Lore are adamant about owning the team.

Anthony Edwards is a potential MVP winner who is recording 26.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.2 assists in only his fourth season as a pro. Karl-Anthony Towns has become a solid centerpiece who can pass and shoot, and Rudy Gobert completes the Twin Towers setup down low after finding his playing spot beside Towns.

The Wolves are currently valued at $2.94 billion, and the number could easily balloon if the team manages to win an NBA championship within the next couple of seasons.

With everything going right for the Wolves, it makes sense why the current owner and its prospective owners are ready to duke it out in the courts.
