Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards got basketball tips from NBA legend Michael Jordan this summer.

Edwards got in touch with Jordan through a mutual connection.

“[He helped me with] getting to my spots, pulling up, shooting over the defender,” Anthony Edwards said Monday during the Timberwolves’ media day. “I think the best tip that he (Michael Jordan) gave me is that most people lean on people in the post with their [butt], and he does it with the top part of his back. So I think I learned that from him.”

The Timberwolves lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2025 Western Conference Finals in five games. Edwards and Co. beat the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round in five games and the Golden State Warriors in the second round in five games.

A three-time All-Star, Edwards averaged 27.6 points last season while shooting 44.7% from the field, 39.5% from beyond the arc and 83.7% from the free-throw line. He led the NBA in 3-pointers (320).

“I think winning starts with being together and it starts in the summertime,” Edwards said. “We’ve got to be together. We’ve got to be a team. We can’t wait until the All-Star break to try and become a team. We’ve got to do it now.”

Edwards is already one of the best scorers in the NBA. If he develops a post-up game, he could become unguardable.

“I think [he has to] develop his playmaking and understand how to manipulate the floor with the ball in his hands,” Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch said. “I think he’s got a really good feel for that now, having been through it a couple years now.

“He’s just got to execute and complete the plays that are there in front of him and then just continue to be that every-night player at a high level that we know he can be, which is what you need to do if you want to be an MVP in this league. And I certainly think he’s got the DNA for it and he just has to really fully embrace it.”

Edwards has career averages of 23.9 points with the Timberwolves. He was the first pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
