Anthony Edwards made franchise history during the Minnesota Timberwolves’ 118-103 Game 2 defeat against the Oklahoma City Thunder last night.
The three-time NBA All-Star set a new franchise record for most points in a single playoff run, surpassing Kevin Garnett’s mark of 1,049 in 2004.
Going into Game 2, Edwards needed 17 points to leapfrog the Minnesota Timberwolves icon. After scoring 16 points in the first half, Edwards finished inside the paint with 6:47 left in the third period to hit the scoring feat.
Edwards finished as the team’s leading scorer with 32 points, nine rebounds, and six assists on 12-for-26 shooting from the field in 40 minutes. Jaden McDaniels, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and Naz Reid added 22, 17, and 10 points in the losing effort.
Minnesota Timberwolves swingman Anthony Edwards did not bother to speak to reporters after losing in Game 2, as he just incurred a $50,000 fine from the NBA for profane language during his postgame rant in Game 1.
“I definitely got to shoot more. I only took 13 f**king shots. I’ll say, probably just get off the ball a little more, play without the ball. I think that would be the answer because playing on the ball, they’re just going to double and sit in the gaps all day. So I got to go watch some film and pick it apart. We’ll figure it out,” Edwards said.
Minnesota aim to win Game 3 this Saturday to avoid falling to a 0-3 hole. However, Edwards will need help from the likes of Julius Randle, Mike Conley, and Rudy Gobert.
