Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Denver Nuggets Game 7 Makes Wild NBA History
Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

The recent series between Anthony Edwards’ Minnesota Timberwolves and Nikola Jokic’s Denver Nuggets definitely had it all. But apart from the compelling story, larger-than-life players, and thrilling action, the second round showdown also made NBA history.

Before they met in the Western Conference Semifinals, both Denver and Minnesota put on a show by dominating their first round opponents. The Nuggets proved to be the superior squad when they dispatched LeBron James’ Los Angeles Lakers in five games. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves made jaws drop when they swept Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns in four games.

By then, the Anthony Edwards-led squad drew first blood by taking an early 2-0 lead against the defending champs. In response, the Nuggets went on a three-game winning streak to push Minnesota against the wall. However, the Timberwolves took the final two matches and closed the series in their favor.

Edwards’ ascendance as his team’s number one option and his impressive performance against Denver in seven games greatly contributed to the series’ popularity among fans. Without a doubt, this series was one for the ages.

Game 7 Between Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets Makes NBA History

There’s no question a lot of fans loved the series between Denver and Minnesota. A recent tweet by NBA Communications’ official account on X proved the popularity of this showdown as the series’ Game 7 made history.

“Sunday’s Game 7 between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets averaged 8.41M viewers on TNT/truTV/Max, making it the most-watched first or second round playoff game ever on TNT Sports. Sunday also marked the most active day ever across the NBA App and NBA.com,” NBA Communications tweeted.

Game 7’s historic viewership made sense since the stakes for both teams were definitely high. In the end, the Timberwolves came out on top and proved to be the better team in this year’s playoffs.

At it stands, it may be hard to top the Denver-Minnesota series when it comes to viewership. If it happens, though, expect the hype and excitement generated by that potential showdown to go through the roof.
