Free center Mitchell Robinson is “very open” to re-signing with the Knicks, league sources tell Jake Fischer of The Stein Line (Substack link).
That same sentiment applies to Robert Williams III of the Trail Blazers, according to Fischer.
While Portland has plenty of financial flexibility to re-sign Williams if it wants to, the Knicks project to surpass the second tax apron if they bring back Robinson on a market-value deal. Owner James Dolan recently said New York is determined to remain below that threshold in 2026/27 after the team won the championship earlier this month.
Both big men are 28 years old, known for their strong defense, and have lengthy injury histories.
Williams has been slowed by knee problems throughout his career, but he played well in 59 regular season appearances in ’25/26, averaging 6.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 17.1 minutes per game off the bench. He was the top reserve behind starting center Donovan Clingan.
Robinson, who has been bothered by ankle issues, was also relatively healthy this season, averaging 5.7 PPG, 8.8 RPG and 1.2 BPG in 60 contests (19.4 MPG). He was the primary backup to Karl-Anthony Towns and averaged 4.6 PPG and 5.5 RPG in 13.9 MPG during New York’s incredible playoff run.
Fischer mentions Robinson and Williams’ interest in remaining with their current clubs within a look at the Lakers‘ possible offseason targets. Fischer also hears Los Angeles has called the Thunder to check in on Luguentz Dort‘s availability, echoing recent reporting from Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
