The New York Knicks are in a solid position following their Game 2 win in the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks as they head home to Madison Square Garden holding a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. And the Knicks received more good news over the weekend when it was announced the NBA had decided to rescind the technical foul Mitchell Robinson picked up during Game 2, as per Fred Katz of The Athletic.
Mitchell Robinson’s technical foul came late in the second quarter of the Knicks’ Game 2 win, and it was a controversial call to begin with. Robinson was shoved by Spurs star Victor Wembanyama who seemingly instigated the entire incident, yet it was the Knicks’ big man who was given the tech. In fact, Robinson didn’t even react and certainly didn’t appear to do anything to warrant the technical.
Robinson finished Game 2 with seven points, three rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot in 14 minutes of play. In Game 1, Robinson had two points and six rebounds in 13 minutes. Coming into the NBA Finals, it was not certain whether or not Robinson was going to be able to play.
The Knicks’ backup big man suffered a finger injury sometime after the team’s Eastern Conference Semifinal win against the Cleveland Cavaliers. But Robinson traveled with the team to San Antonio and was cleared to play.
The eight-year veteran has been a crucial player off the bench for the Knicks all season as a defensive and rebounding presence. During the team’s playoff run thus far, he’s been averaging 5.2 points and 5.3 rebounds while shooting 73.8 percent from the field.
