Myles Turner makes notable leadership move during NBA offseason

It’s not uncommon for NBA players to host offseason mini-camps before training camp opens as kind of an informal get-together between teammates. Detroit Pistons star Cade Cunningham recently hosted a mini-camp for his Pistons teammates. One of the latest players to organize such a move during the offseason is Milwaukee Bucks big man Myles Turner.

Myles Turner recently had his Bucks teammates get together for informal workouts in his hometown of Austin, Texas, as the offseason trickles down. With the Bucks trading franchise cornerstone Giannis Antetokounmpo this summer, and bringing in a bevy of youthful players via the Giannis trade and through the NBA Draft, Turner is one of the veteran leaders on this team.

Stepping up like this and getting his teammates together is the type of leadership the Bucks will need this upcoming season.

Turner is heading into the second year of a four-year contract he signed with the Bucks last offseason. His addition was supposed to elevate the Bucks in the Eastern Conference, but the team slugged through a disappointing year and missed the playoffs amid Antetokounmpo’s injury concerns.

The former Texas standout appeared in 71 games at a little over 26 minutes per game in his Bucks debut. He averaged 11.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.6 blocked shots with splits of 44 percent shooting from the  field, 38.3 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 74 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
