MyPLAYER Builder
The headline story is the first-ever female MyPLAYER builds, competing in a fully co-ed City. Male and female builds share the exact same underlying framework. Height, weight, wingspan and ratings come entirely from the build, not appearance, to guarantee gameplay parity.
Badge system overhaul
-
53 total Badges, up from 40 in 2K26, including 19 brand-new Badges with six old ones removed. The philosophy shifted from broad all-purpose Badges to specialized ones. Last year’s Set Shot Specialist is now split into Static Middy for mid-range and Set and Fire for threes.
- New Badges span every discipline. Shooting: Set and Fire, Arc Cadence, Static Middy, Smooth Operator, Quick Trigger. Finishing: Post Spin Catalyst, Ghost Stepper. Playmaking: Pace. Defense: Wall Up, Ankle Braces, Seatbelt. Rebounding: Crasher, Possession Closer, Sync Snatcher, Boxout Boss, Breaker. Physicals: Work Horse, Flash, Bruiser.
-
Badge Tokens replace the old Badge-point system. Every build starts with 20 Badge slots across six disciplines, and you earn Tokens by leveling discipline meters rather than grinding per Badge. Taller and shorter builds pay different Token costs for the same Badge.
-
Rebirth returns with four tiers at 90 OVR, and now also unlocks a percentage of default Badge Tokens on new builds.
-
The Synergy system is new. Sixteen slots, 12 giving +1 and four giving +2, split into Fuse Badges for a permanent boost that frees up the Tokens you would have spent, and Reaction Badges paired with a Fuse Badge that trigger after a set number of activations. This is the path to Legend-tier Badges beyond normal caps.
-
Badge Loadouts let you save multiple full Badge combinations and swap pre-tipoff without exiting to a menu. You start with one and can earn up to three more.
-
Signature Blueprints replace Pro-Tuned and NBA templates as the quick-build path, with 40 templates at launch, each blending three real NBA or WNBA player comparisons. A Bulldozer build combines LeBron James, Pascal Siakam and Scottie Barnes.
-
Cap Breakers preview: once a build hits 99 OVR, a Builder Glossary shows exactly how much each attribute would jump before you commit.
-
Takeover Progression and Perks: five default Takeover slots plus 19 unlockable Abilities across five disciplines, 21 total progression rewards, and 15 unlockable Perks — Accelerator, Longevity and Overdrive, one equippable per discipline. Hydration Hero, which blocks Adrenaline and Stamina drain, slots into any discipline.
-
Build Specialization returns with Physicals added as a sixth track. Ten quests per track reward Cap Breakers, cosmetics and a permanent +2 Badge Synergy at Level 10.
- Full Builder access lives in-console or in the NBA 2K HQ app starting Aug. 21.
Gameplay
Powered by ProPLAY with over 7,000 new animations captured this year.
Offense
-
Step-Through Up-and-Unders. Pump-fake into a Pro Stick flick in one of five directions to trigger authentic step-through layups and jumpers, modeled on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Anthony Edwards, Luka Dončić and Donovan Mitchell.
-
Expanded dribbling customization. Signature dribble packages break into roughly 29 individual decoupled animation categories — crossover, spin, hesitation, escape moves, combos — so you can mix Curry’s behind-the-back slide with Trae Young’s escape cross.
-
Dynamic Layup Engine. No two finishes look identical. The engine adjusts a finisher’s shooting hand mid-air against contests and cleans up rim and backboard clipping.
-
Advanced Layups. Gathers — hop-steps, Euro steps, spins — and finishes are now separate, real-time-paired components instead of preset animations.
-
Logic-driven Dunk Meter. All dunks now require manual timing, with the green window expanding or tightening based on real-time defensive positioning through the whole jump.
-
Advanced Controls. Moving Breakdowns (hold RT and flick up to chain signature combos on the move), No-Look Passes with head-tracking selling the misdirection, and streamlined Intuitive Alley-Oops on directional button mapping.
-
Upgraded Rhythm Shooting. A real-time visual tick mark syncs to your Pro Stick motion to teach ideal Tempo. Hitting shots now strictly requires greening the Timing, with reworked feedback overlays, and Rhythm Shooting now extends to free throws.
Defense
-
Hands-Up Defense and Shot Contests. Hold Up on the Pro Stick for aggressive contests, hold Down on the right stick for conservative, foul-avoidant defense. AI defenders use the same system.
-
Advanced Contest Feedback. A color-coded eight-tier contest quality system plus a new Defensive Impact Indicator, where arc size and color show contest severity.
-
Skill-based Ankle Breakers, now driven by real-time momentum tracking rather than chance.
-
Defensive Cutoffs. Two options, a quick one-step or a bigger lunging step via R2/RT, to force body-up collisions that drain Adrenaline and cause fumbles.
-
New collision system for steals. Smarter steal targeting, no more cheap bump-steals from low-Steal big defenders, and ball handlers can now lose and recover the ball.
Revamped Takeover. Five independent discipline meters — Shooting, Finishing, Playmaking, Defense, Rebounding — rise and fall in real time based on performance, moving through six tiers: Frozen, Cold, Neutral, Warm, Hot, Takeover. You can be hot in multiple disciplines at once. There are 24 total Takeover Abilities across disciplines, including Zip Code, Airspace, Blur, Hawk, Second Chance and See the Future, plus the universal Hydration Hero.
AI and Coaching. New spacing-lane logic for faster transition offense. “Set AI” builds plays around true offensive hubs like Nikola Jokić. New on-court play-art notifications appear above teammates’ heads. Team-level offensive gameplans adapt in real time. Pick-and-roll logic is smarter with better pocket passing and “hunt behavior” for isolation-seeking stars. Recognizable defender types for matchup switching have doubled.
MyNBA
The stated goal is “back to basics,” rebuilding the core franchise experience plus one major new mode.
-
Free Agency Revamp. A new moratorium period lets you pitch max free agents early with Roster Demands, Lifelong Loyalty Promises and Performance Bonuses tied to real CBA rules as Guaranteed, Likely or Unlikely. A scrollable depth-chart menu and daily recap screens track the market.
-
GM Trust system. A dynamic Trust rating starting at 50 governs how believable your promises are. It rises from completing MyGM tasks, extensions and re-signings, and drops from broken promises or trading players on multi-year deals.
-
Team Dynamics. Morale now tracks real relationships — friendships from shared background such as hometown, college or national team, and rivalries from repeated playoff losses. Personality clashes, like two Alpha Dogs, slow chemistry. A 50-plus Friendship rating between two stars creates a Dynamic Duo with in-game attribute buffs; three elite friends form a Big 3 for team-wide boosts.
-
Rule Change engine. Unlimited pending rule proposals, removing the old five-per-offseason cap, with sliders and historical context for each.
-
Historic Draft Playlists. Chain real draft classes across decades with Loop, Shuffle or Reverse options.

MyNBA Legacy — the headline addition. A single-player, player-locked 100-year mode blending GM duties with on-court control.
- Pick any player as your Legend, at current attributes or reverted to rookie form. Progress by hitting stat milestones, awards and playoff runs rather than standard rating gains.
-
30 tiers, up to Tier 30 “Eternal G.O.A.T.” Badge Tiers unlock more Legend, Hall of Fame, Gold, Silver and Bronze Badge slots. XP converts 1:1 into Performance Points spent on Training Camps and standalone Bonus Abilities — The Long Haul, Protected and Immune injury tiers, Limitless Stamina, Pave the Way, Legendary Skills, Team-Friendly Deal, Anything for a Ring.
-
Career length extended from 24 to 25 years, and the total franchise window from 80 to 100 years across MyNBA, MyGM and MyNBA Legacy.
-
Generational play. When your Legend retires you can continue as their child, inheriting badges and bonuses. Up to 20 scaling difficulty modifiers exist for elite players chasing bragging rights, including Ranked, Tougher Goals, Injury Risk, Inflation, The Hardest Road and Voter Fatigue.
The City
Headlined by the first-ever co-ed City, letting male and female MyPLAYERs compete side-by-side across every mode: The REC, The Theater, Street Kings, Park, Proving Grounds, Ante-Up, Starting 5, plus two new hubs in Crew HQ and Casual Corner. Thousands of new women’s apparel options are included.
-
The Exchange overhaul. For the first time, any Player Card except Free Agents — even Season-reward cards — can be exchanged for elite rewards, and Collection Reward cards become unauctionable-but-usable rather than fully locked. Features The Premier Exchange, a top-tier card each Season, three new Exchange drops every Friday, and Flexible Gem+ Exchanges where higher-tier cards satisfy lower-tier requirements.
-
Redesigned Play tab with a Featured section and favoritable, pinnable modes.
-
Rotating multiplayer. Triple Threat Online and Clutch Time Online return, with Clutch Time keeping its 4-point line and 14-second clock. Triple Threat Online runs all of Season 1 and awards a mode-completion player card.
-
Player XP, new. Every Player Card levels up through use, unlocking attribute boosts, instant-Takeover starts, extra turbo meters and extra Badge slots. Progress is account-tied — auctioning a card doesn’t erase its XP. New Game Changer cards: Player XP Boost, Player XP Multiplier, Clean Slate, Respec.
-
Unified Auction House across PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time. The largest card pool in MyTEAM history, with expedited transactions, wishlisting and saved searches.
-
Triple Threat Park and All-Star Team-Up. Triple Threat Park moves to a nighttime Skyline Park. The two modes now share a priority card lineup. All-Star Team-Up games run inside real NBA and WNBA arenas with full commentary, players wear team-specific uniforms, and Squad-vs-Squad private matches support up to 10 players.
-
Breakout and Gauntlet. Breakout boards now grow as you warp, revealing more free spots and rewards. Gauntlet is now infinite, previously a fixed 100-game run, with a seasonal leaderboard, pre-selected lineup cards per format, and mid-run shops to trade card uses for rewards.
-
Card Discovery. A new Scouting Report shows recent opposing Player Cards with instant info on how to acquire them via pack, Auction House or mode reward. Collection Search now covers unowned cards too.
-
New Gem Tiers and Parallels. Every OVR above 90 now gets its own distinct gem tier and visual design, beyond the old five of Amethyst, Diamond, Pink Diamond, Galaxy Opal and Dark Matter. Holo, Glass, Gem and On Fire Parallels can be merged into your base card without affecting XP, Badges or Shoes.
-
Everything else. A redesigned three-tier Daily Login system covering daily, streak milestones and lifetime rewards. Exhibitions with adjustable card risk and reward. A Wembanyama-based starter lineup. New intermediate tutorials. Domination sets of varying lengths — a 33-game NBA set and an 18-game WNBA set at launch. Showdown championship ring ceremonies. Salary Cap Online expanding into Triple Threat and Clutch Time lineup rules. Full Lineups expanding from 13 to 15 players. Streamlined Coaching under the Manage tab. Shoe Cards tied to the new Takeover system. One-button Festival Event card conversion. Multi-select Quicksell and Auction sends. A refreshed MyTEAM Arena. And new Triple Threat and Clutch Time venues — a city street corner with swappable floors, and a rooftop court with a 4-point line.
The W and MyWNBA
-
Build-as-You-Go and Attribute Caps. Physical attributes — height, weight, wingspan — now directly set your max attribute caps. The new Build-as-You-Go model lets you remove and reallocate attribute points with MyPoints as your career evolves.
-
Team Badges and Teammate Badges, new. Five Team Badges affect the whole squad: three are in-game event-triggered momentum swings, two are meta Gameplan Badges that reshape your Offensive and Defensive Gameplan menus. Twelve Teammate Badges operate on a micro level, boosting specific paired interactions — a Pick-and-Roll Badge tied to one teammate only helps when running that play with her specifically. You can hyper-focus a Badge on one player or spread its effect across the roster.
-
Play-Calling and PlayVision. PlayVision gets a game-wide facelift. Rookies start with zero play-calling ability and unlock quick plays, then complex player-specific sets, as they earn coaching trust. Season-long challenges unlock new Team Badge slots and opponent-specific game plans.
-
MyWNBA. Full franchise control mirroring MyNBA feature-for-feature — trades, drafting, and all adjustable simulation and franchise mechanics.
