The Indiana Pacers scored a major upset when Tyrese Haliburton corralled a late rebound and hit a game-winning shot against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 2 on Tuesday.
But the NBA later admitted that the play should not have been allowed.
Haliburton rebounded his own missed free throw in the final seconds, then stepped out behind the 3-point arc to hit the winning shot with 1.1 seconds remaining. His shot gave the Pacers a 120-119 win and a stunning 2-0 series lead over the top-seeded Cavaliers.
The sting of the loss may have gotten a bit sharper for the Cavaliers on Wednesday when the league released its Last Two Minute Report, which details all missed calls in the final two minutes of a game. The report noted that there were "multiple" lane violations on the free-throw attempt, including Haliburton.
"Multiple players enter the lane and cross the three-point line before the ball is released for the free throw, and the shooter steps over the plane of the free throw line before the ball touches the rim," the report noted. "The call should have been made and a jump ball held at midcourt."

Had the play been called correctly, the Cavaliers would have maintained a two-point lead going into the jump ball, with close to 12 seconds remaining in the game.
Haliburton said afterward that his team is good at finding ways to win.
"We just have a resilient group, man," Haliburton said, via ESPN. "We just figure out ways to win. We don't give up. We're battle-tested as a group. We've basically been together for about two years now and that continuity has been really good for us."
