The Chicago Bulls suffered their second loss of the season on Saturday. However, a controversial play involving Caleb Wilson late in the game could’ve changed the game’s complexion. The NBA admitted the mistake in its Last 2 Minute report the following day.

He finished with a game-high 30 points and 14 rebounds, along with three assists and two steals against the Washington Wizards. Wilson also made franchise history through his first three NBA games. However, his efforts weren’t enough to avoid a 124-120 defeat and dropped Chicago’s record to 1-2. It came three days after the team made unwanted history in its season opener versus the Toronto Raptors.

Wilson has been a bright spot for the Bulls. He is justifying their decision to draft him at No. 4 overall out of North Carolina. Chicago had a clear need at the power forward spot last season and the 20-year-old is proving to be the long-term answer.

NBA admits foul on Bulls rookie Caleb Wilson late in Wizards loss

The NBA’s L2M report included that Wilson was fouled by Anthony Davis. It occurred with less than 10 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter and the 6-foot-10 forward attempting a three-pointer. The Bulls were only down by five points at the time and Wilson’s potential triple would’ve made it one-possession ball game.

“Last Two Minute report says Anthony Davis should have been called for a shooting foul on Caleb Wilson’s three-point attempt. Would have put Caleb on the line for 3 FTs down 5 with 9.5 seconds to go in last night’s loss,” CHGO’s Will Gottlieb wrote.

However, the report also stated the Wilson received free throws with 1:26 left despite marginal contact from Bilal Coulibaly. It may have balanced the late non-call, but it was still in different situations. The game result stands, with Wilson and the Bulls having an opportunity to bounce back on Monday when they take on the Boston Celtics at TD Garden.
