Let's lay it out simply and honestly. The Phoenix Suns failed to live up to expectations this season, and that's putting it nicely. Many fans of the team hoped they would improve upon their performance in the NBA Playoffs last season in which the Minnesota Timberwolves swept them.
Instead of coming out inspired and with a chip on their shoulder, the Suns went in the other direction, finishing 36-46 and missing out on a spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament. As a result, owner Mat Ishbia began making significant changes. He fired head coach Mike Budenholzer and moved James Jones into a senior advisor role to install Brian Gregory as general manager.
Gregory's first order of business was clearly to trade Kevin Durant, which the Suns did just before the NBA Draft. In return, they received Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and the No. 10 pick in Wednesday's first round of the NBA Draft.
At No. 10 overall, the Suns addressed their need at center by selecting Khaman Maluach out of Duke University. Even after a trade for Charlotte Hornets' Mark Williams, the Suns proved they weren't done making moves, moving up to the No. 31 pick, the first pick in the second round.
With the selection, they took Rasheer Fleming from Saint Joseph's, followed by taking Kentucky's Koby Brea from Kentucky.
Kevin O'Connor was honest when he delivered his assessment of the Phoenix Suns' draft class.
"Khaman Maluach, Rasheer Fleming, and Koby Brea. This draft has been a big-time success for the Suns. All three guys have skills that'll allow them to stick in the NBA," wrote O'Connor. "Maluach's at-rim impact, Fleming's 3-and-D style, Brea's shooting skill. Really impressive by Phoenix."

While Maluach was primarily a paint defender on defense and rim runner on offense, he has a decent shooting stroke that could be taken advantage of at the next level, but how was he rated in NBA Draft reviews?
Based on these moves, particularly the trade for Williams, it appears that Ishbia is going for it this year and will likely continue to do so every year going forward.
