Kevin Durant, now in his 18th season in the NBA, and the Houston Rockets were in action on Saturday night. They faced the defending champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, on the road at Paycom Center. For Durant, it was an opportunity to battle his former team in his former stomping ground.
When Durant entered the NBA in 2007, he was the second overall pick of the then Seattle SuperSonics. He was the organization’s cornerstone superstar when it moved from Seattle to Oklahoma City. During his nine-year tenure, the former MVP led the Thunder to its first-ever NBA Finals in 2012, where they lost to LeBron James and the Miami Heat.
Given his history with the Thunder, it was only fitting that Durant marked another career milestone against his former team.
Durant and the Rockets entered Saturday's matchup in dire need of a win. They had lost back-to-back games, dropping to 31-19 on the season.
Durant is having a big year in his first season in Houston. Heading into Saturday's matchup, he averaged 26.0 points on 50.% shooting, 5.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.3 triples in 36.6 minutes per contest.
The 16-time All-Star kept his foot on the gas on Saturday. In fact, Durant made history by climbing the NBA's leaderboard for most career field goals. The NBA announced his latest feat during the game.
"Congrats to @KDTrey5 of the @HoustonRockets for moving up to 9th on the all-time FIELD GOALS MADE list!" the NBA posted on X.

Durant passed Hall of Fame big man Elvin Hayes for No. 9 on the list. He is now chasing Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki for eighth all-time.
It has been a tightly contested affair in OKC. As of writing, Durant and the Rockets are up, 103-97, with three minutes left in the game.
