NBA announces Rising Stars rosters for new format

The Rising Stars event at NBA All-Star Weekend got a brand-new format this year, and the rosters for the mini-tournament are now set.

The 28 players playing in this year's event were announced earlier in the week, but they have now been officially split up into four teams. Composed of 12 rookies, 12 sophomores and four players from the G-League Ignite team, the rosters are as follows:

Team Barry: Cade Cunningham, Evan Mobley, Alperen Sengun, Jae'Sean Tate, Isaac Okoro, Franz Wagner, Dyson Daniels

Team Isiah: Anthony Edwards, Desmond Bane, Tyrese Haliburton, Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Stewart, Precious Achiuwa, Jaden Hardy

Team Payton: LaMelo Ball, Scottie Barnes, Davion Mitchell, Ayo Dosunmu, Chris Duarte, Jaden McDaniels, Scoot Henderson

Team Worthy: Cole Anthony, Josh Giddey, Jalen Green, Tyrese Maxey, Jalen Suggs, Herbert Jones, MarJon Beauchamp

Team Barry is headlined by a duo of Rookie of the Year candidates in Cunningham (Pistons) and Mobley (Cavs). Sengun and Tate both were selected from the Rockets, with Okoro and Wagner coming from the Cavs and Magic, while Daniels represents the Ignite.

Team Isiah is led by 2020's top draft pick Edwards. This team is heavy on sophomores, as Bane (Grizzlies), Haliburton (Kings), Bey (Pistons), Stewart (Pistons) and Achiuwa (Raptors) are all in their second year. Hardy is the team's Ignite representative.

Team Payton, conversely, gives Team Barry a run for the most rookie power in the event. Ball, the Hornets' reigning Rookie of the Year, is the team's headliner, but Barnes (Raptors), Mitchell (Kings), Dosunmu (Bulls) and Duarte (Pacers) are all in their first year. McDaniels (Timberwolves) is in his second season, and Henderson comes from the Ignite.

Finally, Team Worthy is led by a pair of second-year guards in Anthony (Magic) and Maxey (76ers). They also sport a strong group of rookies in Giddey (Thunder), Green (Rockets), Suggs (Magic) and Jones (Pelicans) and Beauchamp of the Ignite.

The Rising Stars event is set to begin at 8 p.m. ET on Friday, Feb. 18. The four teams will compete in a mini-tournament with a special shooting competition held between games. The semifinal matchups will be a first-to-50 format with the championship match being played to 25.
