The Philadelphia 76ers and Charlotte Hornets are open for business at the top of the NBA Draft. At least for now.
According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, both teams have signaled to rival front offices that they’re willing to field trade offers for the Nos. 3 and 4 overall picks, respectively, until they’re on the clock next week.
Philadelphia, as The Stein Line previously reported, has even approached San Antonio about swapping spots at No. 2.
“My prediction at this point is that Philadelphia ends up staying there and selecting VJ Edgecombe … emphasis on at this point,” Fischer wrote. “So much can still happen even though we’re only eight days away.
If the Sixers stand pat and go with Edgecombe, that could set the table for teams targeting Rutgers forward Ace Bailey to make a play for Charlotte’s No. 4 pick, Fischer added.
Utah, meanwhile, seems to be playing it differently. The Jazz hold the No. 5 pick and, according to Fischer, have not been encouraging trade talk. That separates them from Washington, who sits at No. 6 and is viewed by multiple teams as a potential trade-up candidate, possibly even looking to leapfrog both the Jazz and the Hornets.
With the draft order from Nos. 3-8 still far from settled, it’s shaping up to be a volatile week for front offices across the league. One move could send the whole thing tumbling.
