NBA Exec Makes Bold Claim on Potential Giannis Antetokounmpo, Victor Wembanyama Duo

According to Sam Vecenie of The Athletic, Milwaukee Bucks superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo is the main name league sources bring up as a potential San Antonio Spurs trade target.

Shams Charania of ESPN reported on Monday that Antetokounmpo, who has spent his entire career in Milwaukee, is open-minded about leaving the Bucks for the first time.

The Spurs have the second overall pick in this year's draft. They could potentially trade that pick, along with multiple players, to the Bucks for Antetokounmpo, the two-time MVP and one-time Finals MVP who will be in the Hall of Fame one day.

If San Antonio found a way to acquire Antetokounmpo, the franchise would have a lethal "Big 3" of Antetokounmpo, Victor Wembanyama and De'Aaron Fox.

One Eastern Conference executive told Vecenie that the Spurs would be his favorite to win the championship if Antetokounmpo landed in San Antonio next to Wembanyama.

"If the Spurs paired Giannis and Wemby, they would be the favorite to win the title next year,” the East exec said. "They’d have two guys who might be top-five players in the league next year on the same team.

"Plus, they fit. They’d have a dominant defense that no one would be able to score against inside, and they’d have the ability to play five-out in an even more devastating way than the Bucks did with Brook Lopez if they surrounded Giannis and Wemby with the right wings.”

Antetokounmpo doesn't have a no-trade clause in his contract. He averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.2 blocks for the Bucks this season in 67 games.

Milwaukee has won just one postseason series since winning the 2021 championship. The Indiana Pacers have defeated the Bucks in the first round of the playoffs two years in a row.

The 30-year-old Antetokounmpo has career averages of 23.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.2 blocks. Meanwhile, Wembanyama has career averages of 22.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.2 steals and 3.7 blocks.

It will be fascinating to see what Antetokounmpo does this summer. If the swingman requests a trade from the Bucks, the Spurs will probably call Milwaukee.
