The New York Knicks are just days away from their first NBA Finals appearance in 27 years. While the team remains dominant, an unexpected injury to Mitchell Robinson left a question mark over their frontcourt rotation.

Robinson suffered a broken right pinkie finger late in Game 4 against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The injury happened during the closing minutes of a 130-93 victory that secured a 4-0 series sweep.

The Associated Press reported that there was no official timetable for his return because the franchise had not yet released a public statement. With the NBA Finals scheduled to begin on June 3, the timing of the injury created worry about his availability.

The Knicks have won 11 straight playoff games, with almost all of those victories coming by double-digits. New York has not reached the NBA Finals since 1999, and the franchise is looking to win its first championship since 1973.

Losing a player like Robinson would hurt the physical identity that Coach Brown relies on. Robinson is the anchor of the second unit and provides elite offensive rebounding and rim protection.

During these playoffs, he has averaged around 5.5 points and over 7 rebounds per game. In Game 4 victory against Cleveland, he scored 8 points and 10 rebounds in just 18 minutes on the court.

If Robinson is unable to play during the upcoming series, the Knicks could face a serious disadvantage. Their upcoming opponent will be either the Oklahoma City Thunder or the San Antonio Spurs, meaning New York will have to defend elite young big men like Chet Holmgren or Victor Wembanyama.

However, reports indicate that Robinson underwent successful surgery on his broken finger on Friday. Roster insiders reveal that he intends to play in Game 1 of the Finals by wearing a protective brace on his right hand.

Having Robinson even while dealing with a fractured finger shows us the toughness the Knicks have shown this season.

Knicks Postseason Dominance This Year

They started the postseason by defeating the Atlanta Hawks 4-2. They followed that by bagging consecutive 4-0 sweeps against the 76ers and the Cavaliers. The team also became the first team in history to win three separate series-winning games by 20 or more points in a single postseason.

Jalen Brunson won Eastern Conference Finals MVP honors, while Karl-Anthony Towns has provided scoring flexibility from the inside and outside. Additionally, Robinson has fit into this team by accepting his role from the bench.

Fortunately for New York, the rest of the roster is entering the final stage of the season with a clean medical report. Previous day-to-day issues for players like Anunoby and Brunson have been completely resolved.

Game 1 of the NBA Finals will tip off on Wednesday, June 3. New York will start the best-of-seven series on the road against the Western Conference champion.
