Quentin Grimes is yet to finalize a contract extension with the Philadelphia 76ers.
After the shocking Luka Doncic trade, the Dallas Mavericks also parted ways with Quentin Grimes and a 2025 second-round pick at the NBA Trade Deadline.
The Mavs made the call to acquire veteran forward Caleb Martin. So far, the move has backfired for the Mavericks, as Grimes had a phenomenal run with the Philadelphia 76ers late last season.
As a result, most expected Grimes to re-sign with Philly this summer, but so far, no deal has been finalized between the two sides.
Grimes put himself on the map by averaging 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game for the 76ers in 28 matchups last season.
Despite that stunning performance, Grimes remains to finalize a deal with the 76ers as he entered free agency as a restricted free agent.
Amid those negotiations, the Utah Jazz are reportedly a dark-horse destination for Grimes ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season.
“As I talk with executives around the league, there’s increasing curiosity about the Utah Jazz, a team with the flexibility to add talent,” NBA insider Ary reported on X.
They added: “One name that continues to come up: Quentin Grimes. There’s a sense that Utah could be a team to watch if the opportunity presents itself.”
With the Jazz already drafting Ace Bailey during the 2025 NBA Draft, adding Grimes to the core could be an excellent move.
After all, it’s about time the Jazz end their tanking and once again try to contend for a postseason spot in the Western Conference.
This offseason has been full of young stars waiting it out rather than accepting undervalued offers from their respective franchises.
Be it Jonathan Kuminga and the Golden State Warriors or Cam Thomas and the Brooklyn Nets, these young stars want to earn a massive paycheck this summer.
Grimes has also delayed signing a new contract with the 76ers, likely due to this reason. But how do NBA executives feel about Grimes’ value in today’s market?
“One front-office staffer who is especially high on Grimes suggested a four-year, $75 million deal, the most total money and the highest average annual value ($18.8 million) anyone in the poll mentioned,” The Athletic’s Fred Katz reported.
But that’s the opinion of one front-office executive, as Katz mentioned a majority of them agreed that Grimes is not worth more than $16.7 million annually.
