Nikola Jokic's dominance in the NBA has been incredible to witness. We are talking about a player where a triple-double every single game is expected from him. The Serbian superstar is reaching a level of dominance that has never been seen in ages.
For one NBA legend, Jokic's production this season is comparable to one of the game's greats. On his "KG: Certified" podcast, Kevin Garnett compared the Denver Nuggets' incredible season to the great Wilt Chamberlain.
"He Wilt," Garnett said emphatically. "Joker's Wilt. Joker is doing Wilt-like s---. No athleticism, really, slow-rolling going at his own pace. It's not a miracle, but when you watch it - it's efficient."
What makes Garnett compare Joker to the player that was the most dominant during the era he played in? Well, Jokic is currently third in the league in points per game with 29.9, third in rebounds per game with 13.1, second in assists per game with 10.1, and somehow, fourth in steals with 1.8 per game. It's normal for MVP candidates to be elite at one category and mediocre in others. Jokic, somehow, is elite in nearly everything he does.
Jokic is gunning for his fourth MVP title, and perhaps more importantly, his second ring. Only five players have won four MVP trophies in their careers: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, and of course, Chamberlain himself. It would be quite the impressive feat for Jokic to chase that achievement.
The Nuggets are behind the Oklahoma City Thunder for the first seed in the Western Conference. For Jokic's MVP case, this is important since his top competitor for the trophy, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, is leading the Thunder to the top seed. If Jokic can continue to get the ball rolling for Denver, perhaps he'll have a shot at winning that precious fourth MVP award.
