Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder are seeking a bounce-back win on Monday night against the Memphis Grizzlies. The defending champions are coming off a disappointing 112-107 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday, which marked their second loss in three games.

OKC is still the No. 1 team in the NBA, but their recent mini-slump has dropped their record to 25-3 after losing just once in their first 25 games of the season. Gilgeous-Alexander was determined to lead his team to victory on Monday night. He made a statement in the first half, dropping 17 points to give OKC a 67-54 lead at the break.

Gilgeous-Alexander came into Monday’s contest with a historic milestone within reach. The reigning NBA MVP had scored at least 20 points for 99 consecutive games and was looking to reach the century mark against Memphis.

Gilgeous-Alexander’s big moment came early in the fourth quarter. He hit a contested jumper for his 21st point of the evening.

The NBA took to social media to announce the Thunder superstar’s historic feat.

“SHAI HAS SCORED 20 POINTS IN 100 CONSECUTIVE GAMES ” the league posted on X.

As the post indicates, Gilgeous-Alexander is only the second player in league history ever to score at least 20 points for 100 consecutive games. The only other player to have achieved this mind-blowing feat is legendary big man Wilt Chamberlain, who is widely considered one of the greatest players of all time. The fact that Gilgeous-Alexander now shares a scoring record with the Hall of Famer speaks volumes about the former’s own legacy.

The Thunder are in the driver's seat in this one. As of writing, OKC is up 109-99 with 3:41 left in the game.
