We’re just about a week into the NBA season, and while it’s no surprise, San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama continues to ascend at a rapid rate. Through the Spurs’ first three games, they’ve jumped out to a 3–0 start, led by their dominant second-year phenom.
Wembanyama missed nearly the entire second half of last season after unexpectedly suffering from deep vein thrombosis (a blood clot) in his shoulder. After a full offseason of recovery, he looks better than ever on both ends of the floor.
In three games, Wembanyama has posted scoring performances of 40, 29, and 31 points, recording a double-double in each contest with 15, 11, and 14 rebounds respectively, combined to average 33.3 points, 13.3 rebounds, and 6.0 blocks per game.
Following his dominant week, he was officially named the Western Conference Player of the Week, joining Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, who earned the honor in the Eastern Conference.

Victor Wembanyama shared his thoughts on his mindset and overall approach following his first game, in which he scored 40 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.
"[I was] much more in control of myself," Wembanyama said. "The mind, I'm not worried about [that] because I saw what it's like to be confronted with potentially losing a lot, whether it's your career or your health. So I'm not taking this for granted anymore. The body? I'm having more fun now that I'm not struggling to move as much. I know I still need to get better, and I'm still going to get better."
