The 2025 NBA Finals is just around the corner. But, in the meantime, BetMGM Sports recently revealed new and exclusive data about the most wagered teams and players during the 2024-25 season. Read on for BetMGM’s data for the general public.
According to BetMGM Sports, the Los Angeles Lakers emerged as the most bet-on team of the season. Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic topped the charts as the most bet-on player. Jokic, 30, finished the 2024-2025 MVP race as the runner-up to Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Gilgeous-Alexander, 26, had the fifth-most player prop tickets at 1.55%. Gilgeous-Alexander’s fifth place has been overshadowed as he’s the only player in BetMGM Sports’ top five to have reached the conference finals this season. No other player with a ticket share over 1.5% or a handle share above 1.3% played in a conference final.
The NBA’s most wagered team, the Los Angeles Lakers, showed the public that they shine, no matter what. Despite playing in California, a state without online sports betting, Los Angeles had the highest ticket share at 6.19% and ticket share at 5.84% during the 2024-25 regular season.
The league’s most wagered player, Jokic, had 1.9% of all bets and 1.78% of all handles placed on players, both NBA-highs. No other Denver Nuggets player ranked higher than 36th place in tickets or 43rd place in handles. Both were Jamal Murray.
The NBA’s most wagered teams and players this season have been interesting. Regarding Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder, bettors liked the eventual 2025 NBA MVP and the winningest team, but not overwhelmingly. Gilgeous-Alexander finished in fifth place for both tickets and handles, while the Thunder finished in fourth place for both.
The Thunder and Indiana Pacers will open the 2025 NBA Finals with Game 1 on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Central. The game will be broadcast on ABC. The Thunder’s home-court advantage might work in their favor, but the Pacers’ solid supporting cast can support Tyrese Haliburton and Pascal Siakam to possibly give the Thunder a hard time.
