There’s been little progress on the Jonathan Kuminga front in recent weeks, according to NBA insider Anthony Slater of ESPN. The 22-year-old restricted free agent returned to his offseason base in Miami after a trip to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Kuminga reportedly remains unimpressed by the Warriors’ two-year, $45 million offer, which includes a team option for the second year and a request for him to waive his implicit no-trade clause.

The structure of the deal, with no guaranteed money beyond the first year and a trade-friendly salary, does not align with Kuminga’s desire for a long-term commitment. Sources say he’s more focused on securing a contract that would solidify him as a key building block for either the Warriors or another team.

His camp proposed a three-year, $82 million contract, but Golden State turned it down. Kuminga has also expressed that he prefers the option of signing his one-year, $8 million qualifying offer and hitting unrestricted free agency in 2026 rather than accepting the Warriors’ short-term proposal.

Horford on Way? While Al Horford has considered retirement and is waiting for resolution on Kuminga’s situation, the Warriors appear to be moving forward as if the 39-year-old veteran will be part of their 2025/26 plans. Slater reports that the Warriors may slot Horford in as their starting center to ease Draymond Green’s regular-season workload. However, Horford’s minutes would need to be carefully managed given his age and the demands of the season.

Westbrook’s Future: Free agent point guard Russell Westbrook could be headed to the Sacramento Kings, according to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon. Although there have been reports that the Kings may need to trade either Malik Monk or Devin Carter to make room for Westbrook, sources continue to link the former MVP to Sacramento. Despite the crowded backcourt, the Kings seemingly remain the most likely destination.

Grimes and the Sixers: The 76ers are optimistic about re-signing restricted free agent guard Quentin Grimes, per Jake Fischer of The Stein Line. While Grimes could still accept his $8.7 million qualifying offer, the report suggests the two sides are working toward a more favorable deal that would see Grimes earn a higher starting salary.
